BAP MISSION
Boston Annex Players (BAP) creates riveting performances that engage audiences in a modern sinfonietta experience. Formed as an offshoot of our parent organization Boston Opera Collaborative, these concerts are performed in non-traditional spaces in multidisciplinary artistic endeavors with other arts organizations which allows for tangible interaction with the audience.
Not quite a full orchestra, but much more than a string quartet, we are working to establish a core identity as a collective of 15 musicians who develop a unique sonic signature as an ensemble, performing high quality works that are typically under-represented within the professional music community. This novel one-on-a-part instrumentation allows us to reimagine and perform a larger repertoire of traditional works, and also provides new composers with more timbral options when writing for smaller settings.
We aim to bridge the divide between school and larger, union-level jobs and provide essential performance opportunities for post-graduate musicians in both opera and beyond. In addition to working closely with the Boston Opera Collaborative to provide more musical color to performances that may be otherwise limited to recordings or solo piano, we strive to commission and perform repertoire written specifically for our instrumentation.
